Carabinieri from Termini Imerese have executed a house arrest order, mandating the use of an electronic bracelet, against a 19-year-old from Bagheria. The charges are for a multi-aggravated robbery and complicity in causing grievous bodily harm to a disabled foreign street vendor who was robbed and beaten last March in Trabia (Palermo).
The investigation centers on the brutal assault carried out by a “gang” of five youths. The victim, who had a pre-existing disability, was beaten with kicks and punches to the face, resulting in a fractured nasal septum and the loss of a tooth.
Crucial to reconstructing the assault was the analysis of footage from Trabia’s video surveillance systems, which led to the identification of the young suspect.
Following the robbery, officers from the Termini Imerese and Trabia stations collected money amongst themselves and gifted a new mobile phone to the vendor, as his had been stolen, to allow him to communicate with his family in his home country.
