Prosecutors in Paola have registered a tenth person under investigation in the botulism poisoning case within Italy’s Calabria region, which resulted in two fatalities and the hospitalization of 14 others at Cosenza Hospital. The tenth suspect is a doctor, joining five other healthcare professionals already under investigation. This physician is also alleged to have treated one of the two deceased individuals. Previously named suspects include the street vendor who sold the sandwiches, three executives from the companies that produced the contaminated product, and five doctors from two healthcare facilities in the Cosenza area.
