A 16-year-old Sri Lankan boy has drowned in a swimming pool on private property near Verona’s Bentegodi stadium. The teenager, who was being treated for severe autism at the Policlinico Borgo Roma hospital, had wandered away from the “Don Calabria” professional training centre where he was enrolled in an educational programme. He subsequently entered the private grounds and drowned in the outdoor pool.
By the time his body was discovered, nothing could be done to save him. The Carabinieri arrived on the scene to conduct investigations and are awaiting authorization from the magistrate before the body can be removed. The Don Calabria institute is located in the vicinity of the private property.
