An 18-year-old Nigerian man residing in Novara drowned in Lake Orta near Pettenasco (Novara province) late this afternoon. The incident occurred around 6:00 PM when the teenager, who had dived into the lake, was stricken by a sudden illness while in the water.
Other swimmers immediately raised the alarm, prompting the dispatch of a 118 air ambulance to the scene. Medical personnel attempted resuscitation efforts but were unsuccessful and could only confirm the young man’s death.
Firefighters from Borgomanero and Carabinieri from the Orta San Giulio station also responded to the incident.
