Italian police have apprehended the 21-year-old man accused of murdering police inspector Ciro Luongo in Melito di Napoli. The suspect, identified as Roberto Marchese, is the son of Inspector Luongo’s partner and fled the scene immediately after the killing. Luongo was stationed at the Giugliano in Campania police station.
Preliminary investigations indicate the homicide occurred during a violent escalation of a domestic dispute. Marchese allegedly attacked Luongo with multiple blows. Responding officers summoned by an emergency call found Luongo dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Naples Nord Prosecutor’s Office are now reconstructing the precise sequence of events and the motive behind the fatal argument. Key questions include whether long-standing animosity existed between the two men or if the violence erupted suddenly.
Authorities had launched a concentrated manhunt for Marchese following the murder of his stepfather. Luongo, described as a highly experienced and well-regarded officer, is remembered by shocked colleagues and acquaintances for his professional dedication and personal qualities.
