Spain Sees Worst Wildfires on Record as Blazes Scorch 343,862 Hectares

Wildfires have ravaged a record 343,862 hectares of vegetation in Spain since the start of the year, according to data released by the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS). This unprecedented figure surpasses the previous national record of 306,555 hectares burned in 2022. Notably, the 2025 devastation occurred with only 223 major wildfires—less than half the 493 fires responsible for the 2022 damage. The EFFIS data underscores an alarming intensification in fire severity.
