South Tyrol Leader Meets President Mattarella on Summer Visit

Arno Kompatscher, President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol), met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Monday. President Mattarella, currently on summer vacation in South Tyrol, is staying at the “Villa Ausserer” Alpine logistics base in Siusi allo Sciliar (Seis am Schlern).

Accompanied by his daughter and son-in-law, President Mattarella visited Castel Presule (Prösels Castle) in Fiè allo Sciliar (Völs am Schlern) alongside President Kompatscher and his wife.

The castle visit provided an opportunity for an informal exchange. “Beyond discussing current national, European, and global developments,” Kompatscher stated, “we analyzed the situation in South Tyrol and local strategies for addressing today’s social, economic, and environmental challenges. Naturally, we also addressed the issue of South Tyrol’s autonomy, particularly regarding the contents of the constitutional bill to reform the Autonomy Statute.”

A provincial government release noted that President Mattarella also expressed “great interest” in potential collaboration with the United Nations to establish a “Documentation Centre for the Protection of Minorities.” The centre will be located within Bolzano’s (Bozen) new library complex.
