A six-year-old boy disappeared into the sea off Cavallino beach on the Venetian coast this afternoon after momentarily slipping from his mother’s sight. By the time the woman realized he was missing, it was tragically too late. Despite extensive searches by divers and a helicopter continuing until dusk, the child remains missing, casting a pall of shock over the nearby beachfront campsites.
A spontaneous wave of solidarity emerged as the alarm sounded. Many tourists on the beach formed a large human chain, meticulously combing the shoreline meter by meter, though their efforts proved unsuccessful. The fire department helicopter observed a line of at least fifty people slowly advancing through the shallows, intently scanning the water – but the boy was not found.
The mother raised the alarm around 4 PM on a sweltering, windless day with exceptionally calm seas. Search operations, coordinated by the Venice Port Authority, commenced minutes later. Divers, the Veneto regional fire brigade unit using water bikes, and a continuously circling helicopter widening its search pattern all converged on the scene. Initial efforts focused on the waters opposite Ca’ Pasquali, spanning from the Vela Blu campsite to the Blue Sea establishment, involving all lifeguards from the rescue towers.
Rescuers believe the child may have ventured too far into the water, becoming disoriented and unable to return to shore.
