Sinner Triumphs in All-Italian US Open Quarterfinal, Sets Semifinal Clash with Auger-Aliassime

World number one Jannik Sinner has advanced to the semifinals of the US Open, defeating compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. The match, a highly anticipated all-Italian derby, lasted two hours. Sinner now moves on to face Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime for a place in the final.

Sinner began dominantly, sealing the first set in just 27 minutes and leaving his opponent little room to maneuver. The second set proved more competitive; Musetti earned a break point but failed to convert it thanks to a decisive ace from Sinner. The top-ranked player ultimately secured a crucial break in the ninth game to take the set. The third set started with an immediate break in Sinner’s favor. He then defended resiliently, saving several break points against him, and closed out the match without further trouble.

In a post-match interview, Sinner described his performance as “good” and reflected on the unique nature of playing Musetti. “We know each other very well,” he said, noting they come from the same country. “We set aside our friendship [on court], then a handshake and it’s all over.” When asked what the match meant for Italian tennis, Sinner stated, “We are very proud to be Italian: Italians are everywhere. It’s beautiful to be Italian.”
