Seventy-Year-Old Roman Hiker Dies After Sudden Illness in Cortina d’Ampezzo

A 70-year-old hiker from Rome passed away today after being struck by a sudden illness. The man was walking with his family and other individuals on a trail above the Mietres Refuge in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Belluno) when the incident occurred. The alarm was raised shortly before 2:00 PM, prompting a response from the Cortina Alpine Rescue service, which dispatched a team to assist an approaching helicopter rescue unit.

The helicopter from Pieve di Cadore located the site and deployed its rescue winch with a medical team. The professionals took over resuscitation efforts from the bystanders who had been attempting to revive the man. Despite all attempts, their efforts were unsuccessful, and the medical team could only confirm his death. Officers from the Guardia di Finanza were also present to conduct investigations for the case.
