Search operations for missing persons following yesterday’s double shipwreck 14 miles from Lampedusa resumed at dawn. The mortuary on the largest of the Pelagian Islands currently holds 23 bodies, though authorities stated yesterday that the confirmed death toll stands at 27. At the hotspot, Italian Red Cross personnel have begun interviewing survivors, who have been divided into linguistic groups. Their testimonies will help reconstruct in detail what occurred before and during the sinking of the two vessels. Law enforcement officials are also listening to survivors in an effort to gather the names of victims and those still missing.
