Despite worsening weather conditions, the search continues for a German tourist of Italian origin who went missing on Monday in Lake Como. There has been no trace of 55-year-old Sergio Corsano since he dove into the water to rescue his two children, who were subsequently saved from the waters off the shore of the small town of Dorio in the province of Lecco.
A new operational meeting was held today with firefighters and the Coast Guard to outline the operations carried out so far and those planned for the coming hours. Only an announced weather alert is expected to suspend the search efforts.
Rescue technicians are pinning their hopes on the firefighters’ ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle). The robotic submarine, which arrived from Sardinia and is controlled via a cable linked to a control station, allows for the scanning of the lake’s particularly deep abysses. For as long as the waves permit, the robot will remain submerged alongside divers who have arrived from Cagliari.
