Schlein Slams Meloni Over Tourism Data and Wage Stagnation

Democratic Party (PD) Secretary Elly Schlein has rebuked Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for allegedly misrepresenting tourism statistics, citing union reports of a 15% decline in beach visitors and consumer group Altroconsumo’s analysis of a 34% surge in holiday costs. Schlein declared Meloni should “answer to Italian families whose wages are too low for vacations” rather than criticize opposition figures. She further condemned the government for blocking a minimum wage adoption and neglecting to address Italy’s status as having Europe’s most expensive energy bills. Schlein’s remarks responded directly to Meloni’s social media post accusing the PD leader and “certain opposition” members of distorting tourism data.
