Massimiliano Santini surrendered his mobile phone and SIM card to flying squad officers at the Pesaro Police Headquarters this morning. The handover was announced by Gioacchino Genchi, lawyer for Santini—the former right-hand man of Matteo Ricci, ex-mayor of Pesaro and current center-left candidate for Marche regional president—amid a foster care corruption investigation implicating Santini.
The Pesaro Prosecutor’s Office is investigating 24 individuals in the case, including 16 facing corruption allegations. Genchi asserts that retrieving “all multimedia content and conversations between Santini and other suspects via the discontinued WhatsApp Business account” holds “significant relevance for the defense.”
Genchi aims to recover private exchanges between Ricci and Santini. In a formal email to lead prosecutor Maria Letizia Fucci, he urged her to request the “required authorization from the European Parliament” to use these messages as evidence in the criminal proceedings.
