Italian Deputy Prime Minister and League party leader Matteo Salvini declared that the French are “nervous,” arguing their national debt poses a greater danger to investments than Italy’s does. The comments were made during a campaign event on Monte Conero in Sirolo (Ancona), where he presented the League’s candidates for the upcoming regional elections alongside the incumbent gubernatorial candidate, Francesco Acquaroli.
“They convene in Paris to discuss future wars,” stated Salvini. “We are doing everything to arm our diplomacy, not our tanks.”
Salvini also emphasized that ending the war in Ukraine would “save many lives and open trade for many entrepreneurs who want to continue working.” He took a firm stance against the suggestions from some left-wing governments in Europe about sending soldiers, declaring, “On one thing I will not compromise: as long as I am in government, there will not be a single soldier sent to fight in Ukraine. We are not at war, and we do not want to be.”
The League leader further criticized the French government, alleging, “In Paris they are very nervous. One day they summon ambassadors, the next day they attack governments like Italy’s over a tax system that is absolutely normal.”
