The Local Police of Rome Capital have intensified efforts against commercial irregularities and issues linked to unruly nightlife over the weekend. Officers conducted over 400 checks at public establishments and commercial businesses in the city’s most frequented nightlife areas. Among the primary infractions, totaling approximately one hundred, were failures to observe anti-alcohol regulations, unauthorized occupation of public land, nocturnal disturbances, excessively loud music, and improper waste disposal. Additionally, around ten minimarkets were shut down for operating beyond permitted hours.
During inspections in the Trastevere district, officers uncovered severe violations at one establishment that was serving food and beverages without authorization. The inspection revealed further anomalies, including a substantial quantity of untraceable food items stored in improper and promiscuous conditions, even utilizing a non-functional refrigeration unit. Rodent excrement was also found on the premises. Given these serious infractions and the high risk to public health, the competent health authority (ASL) was immediately alerted and ordered the business closed. Officers seized over twenty kilograms of food products and issued fines totaling approximately 15,000 euros to those responsible.
In targeted operations against unlicensed commercial activity, patrols were deployed across various streets and piazzas in the historic center with high tourist traffic. This led to the seizure of over 4,000 illegally sold articles, including bags, wallets, and other accessories bearing counterfeit logos. A major anti-vending operation was conducted by the First Central Group officers in the archaeological park area of the Colosseum, resulting in the seizure of roughly a thousand products. This included a significant quantity of water bottles being sold illicitly by unauthorized vendors with a complete disregard for hygiene standards and consumer protection regulations.
