Rome celebrated the sport of fencing, one of Italy’s athletic excellences, with a special event at Piazza della Rotonda. The 15th edition of “On the Edge of the Sword – The Fencing Marathon – Enzo Musumeci Greco Memorial” took place, recognized as the world’s largest non-competitive public fencing exhibition. A great number of athletes of all levels and ages took turns competing on the pistes set up beneath the historic Pantheon.
The event was attended by numerous fencing luminaries, including the President of the Italian Fencing Federation (Fis), Luigi Mazzone, the Deputy Vice-President Daniele Garozzo, the Di Veroli brothers, Damiano and Davide, and other top athletes such as Paolo Pizzo, Valerio and Edoardo Reale, Matteo Tagliariol, Elena Ferracuti, and the multi-medaled Paralympic champion Loredana Trigilia, to name a few.
The afternoon was a celebration of fencing, featuring live demonstrations by Paralympic and able-bodied fencers, young and old, all together without barriers. The event offered the public a unique spectacle, showcasing the inclusive and spectacular nature of the sport.
