A “digital sailor” that turns a boat into a smart, connected, and secure environment is the goal of Smart Sailor, a product developed by the Rome-based innovative startup Chimera Tech Srl, which specializes in advanced technological solutions.
According to a press release, Smart Sailor acts as a “true, always-connected computing brain for the boat,” capable of integrating with onboard instrumentation to provide continuous monitoring, system automation, remote management, and intelligent assistance. The company describes it as a modular and scalable system that integrates sensors, cameras, data connectivity, and energy management. Its functions are broken down into real-time monitoring, automation, remote control, an at-anchor ‘roadstead’ mode, and ‘smart’ navigation. The latter integrates data from GPS, wind, depth, weather, and consumption gauges, all with AI-driven suggestions.
The platform is designed for boat owners, yachtsmen, and sailors and boasts “the same ease of use as the most modern smart home and domotic technologies.” It will be officially unveiled at the Cannes Yachting Festival from September 9th to 14th, and subsequently at the Genoa Boat Show from September 18th to 23rd at the Lazio Region stand.
“With Smart Sailor, we wanted to bring the same digital revolution that has transformed our homes and cities to the recreational boating sector. Our goal is to provide every boat owner with a simple, reliable, and innovative tool that enhances safety, efficiency, and the pleasure of being at sea,” stated Chimera Tech’s founder and CEO, Marco Chimenti.
