Opposition leader Matteo Renzi has sarcastically countered Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s social media post from her overseas vacation, where she criticized domestic opponents. Meloni claimed Italian beaches were excessively crowded, “forcing” her to vacation in Greece this year after traveling to Albania in 2023 – a circumstance Renzi derided as a “sacrifice” by the “poor Premier who never rests.”
The Italia Viva party leader further noted that Meloni’s government has now outlasted his own administration in longevity, wryly declaring, “Hooray, we’re becoming a stable country.” He then posed what he termed a “non-polemical” question to social media users, including Meloni’s supporters: “Can anyone recall any reforms by this government?”
Renzi contrasted this by listing multiple policies enacted during his premiership, such as the €80 monthly low-income bonus, the Jobs Act labor reforms, Industry 4.0 incentives, Civil Unions legislation, the “After Us” disability care law, IRAP tax adjustments, primary residence IMU tax exemptions, electronic invoicing, precompiled tax returns, and youth bonuses. “Given both governments have served equal days,” he challenged, “is Meloni’s administration merely muddling through?” Renzi invited civil responses, stating he would read them “with pleasure.”
