Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that President Vladimir Putin received a call from former U.S. President Donald Trump following Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House. According to Lavrov, Putin “clearly stated his readiness to proceed with the direct Russian-Ukrainian negotiations that were initiated in Istanbul.” Lavrov added that high-level summits, particularly between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, “must be prepared very well.” The Russian Foreign Minister also noted a proposal to elevate the level of the delegations meeting in Istanbul to address specific issues that would then be brought to the attention of Presidents Putin and Zelenskyy.
