Pope Leo XIV made a private visit this morning to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Grace at Mentorella, located in the Guadagnolo hamlet of Capranica Prenestina within the Diocese of Palestrina.
After praying and touring the sanctuary, the Pope met with the Polish Resurrectionist religious order who maintain the site before returning to Castel Gandolfo.
The Mentorella sanctuary held particular significance for Pope John Paul II (Karol Wojtyła) and was also visited by Pope Benedict XVI. It was one of the first official destinations outside the Vatican for John Paul II, who had been drawn to the location’s beauty and had previously hiked there on foot for prayer. Throughout his pontificate, he returned frequently to the sanctuary both for prayer and for periods of rest.
