Pope Leo has recommended that the Augustinians practice “humility to avoid falling into the vanity of those who seek knowledge for its own sake.” He also emphasized the importance of the “gift of divine charity” to best live the communal life and carry out apostolic activity by sharing material goods. “Let us remain faithful to evangelical poverty,” the Pope encouraged, “and ensure it becomes the criterion for living all that we are and all that we have, including the means and structures, in the service of our apostolic mission.”
The Provost recalled the Augustinian Rule, which states, “As you are nourished from one pantry, so too should you be clothed from one wardrobe.”
