Pope Eases Inclusion of Disabled Workers in the Holy See

VATICAN CITY – The Pope is facilitating the employment of workers with disabilities within the Holy See. A new Apostolic Letter has modified existing regulations to promote workplace inclusion “with a spirit of welcome” and, where necessary, through “appropriate and specific measures.” The document states that a “condition of disability does not preclude suitability for work” within the institutions governed by the new rules. Consequently, the General Regulations of the Roman Curia will replace the requirement of a “duly certified state of good health” with a certification of “psycho-physical fitness for the tasks to be performed,” which will be issued by the Directorate of Health and Hygiene of the Vatican City State.
