Pistachio Pesto Products Recalled Due to Chemical Risk

The Italian Ministry of Health has ordered a market recall for specific batches of “Pesto di pistacchio” (pistachio pesto) over concerns of a chemical hazard. The affected products, produced by “Marullo” for the company “Delizie dal Sole,” were sold in 190-gram glass jars with a best-by date of 30/06/2026.

The recall targets three specific lot numbers: D2501784, D2501816, and D2501824. The product was marketed by the retailer Eurospin Italia SpA.

Health authorities issued the recall after tests revealed the presence of aflatoxins at levels exceeding legal limits. Consumers are warned not to consume the product and to return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.

Aflatoxins are mycotoxins produced by certain species of Aspergillus mold, which thrives in warm and humid climates. These substances are known for their genotoxic and carcinogenic properties. Health guidelines stress that consumer exposure to aflatoxins through food must be kept as low as possible. They are commonly found in foodstuffs such as peanuts, tree nuts, corn, rice, dried fruit, spices, and crude vegetable oils.
