The A1 motorway section between Orte and the Rome North junction toward Naples has reopened after closure for recovery operations on an LPG tanker. However, Autostrade per l’Italia confirmed the stretch toward Florence between the Rome North junction and Ponzano Romano remains shut.
Additionally, the Rome North junction between Fiano Romano and the fork for the A1 Milan-Napoli route is closed toward the A1 itself. Traffic is required to exit at Fiano Romano and re-enter the motorway at Orte station for Florence. Drivers heading toward Naples are advised to use the A24 Rome-Teramo motorway.
Significant congestion, stretching 12 kilometers, is reported between Orvieto and Orte in the Naples direction, with traffic flowing on three lanes.
Detour routes are in effect:
**Light vehicles** toward Naples: Exit at Orvieto, take Provincial Road 71 to Montefiascone, then State Road Via Cassia (SS2) and Rome’s ring road (GRA).
**Heavy vehicles** toward Naples: Exit at Orte, follow signs for the Orte-Viterbo highway, then Via Cassia toward Rome, and the GRA toward the A1 Milan-Napoli route for Naples.
**Traffic toward Florence:** Vehicles are diverted onto the Rome North junction, must take the GRA, follow signs for Via Cassia, then take the Orte-Viterbo highway, re-entering the A1 at Orte station.
For long-distance travel:
**Southbound:** Autostrade recommends the A11 Florence-Pisa North, A12 Genoa-Rome, then the GRA.
**Northbound:** Use the A24 Rome-Teramo, then the A14 Bologna-Taranto.
Autostrade per l’Italia personnel, firefighters, and all emergency services are on site.
