Two off-duty officers from Milan’s Lorenteggio police station saved an elderly hiker near the Alpine Hut on Monte Barro in Lecco province, an incident that occurred on the Ferragosto holiday (August 15) but was only disclosed today. While hiking at approximately 800 meters altitude, the officers heard distress calls from a rugged area. Upon locating the scene, they discovered an unresponsive man without a mobile phone lying near a cliff edge. After identifying themselves, the officers stabilized the individual—who had pre-existing health conditions—and remained with him while alerting emergency services. One agent then guided rescuers along the trail to expedite assistance.
Medical personnel from the 118 emergency service, Lecco firefighters, and Alpine Rescue teams arrived promptly, evacuating the man via stretcher. Though initially classified as “yellow code” (moderate severity), he was later declared out of danger. The president of Galbiate’s Alpini Association formally thanked the officers for their decisive intervention.
