Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Norwegian Princess Mette-Marit, has been formally charged with 32 criminal offenses, including four counts of rape, and faces up to 10 years in prison, the Norwegian Attorney General announced. In addition to the rape charges, Mr. Høiby is accused of abusing his girlfriend, acts of violence, deprivation of liberty, and making video recordings without consent, Attorney General Sturla Henriksen detailed at a press conference.
“The maximum penalty for the offenses mentioned in the indictment is imprisonment for up to 10 years,” Henriksen stated, adding, “These are very serious crimes that can leave indelible scars and destroy lives.” Mr. Høiby, who is Princess Mette-Marit’s son from a relationship prior to her marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, was initially arrested on August 4, 2024, on suspicion of assaulting his partner. That arrest prompted a series of further revelations and complaints from multiple alleged victims.
The full list of charges includes four counts of sexually offensive behavior, one count of abuse in a close relationship, two counts of bodily harm, one count of vandalism, one count of threats, five violations of restraining orders, one count of insulting a police officer, and five traffic violations.
