Italian Carabinieri have arrested nine suspected affiliates of the Longobardi-Beneduce Camorra clan from Pozzuoli, Naples, executing a pre-trial detention order issued by the Naples Judge for Preliminary Investigations (GIP) at the request of the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate.
The suspects face charges of mafia association and association for drug trafficking aggravated by the so-called mafia method.
Investigations revealed the criminal group monopolized the drug trade in local trafficking areas. This monopoly regime ensured protection from rival gangs’ demands, though the group did not refrain from using weapons.
The primary suspect, identified as the group’s leader and organizer, directed criminal activities – including recruiting new members – from prison using illicit cellphones. Wiretaps were instrumental in uncovering his role.
A statement explained that the evidence gathered was corroborated by “convergent statements from recent justice collaborators.” These informants provided details on the clan’s structure, members, and recent criminal dynamics within Pozzuoli and surrounding areas.
