Another case of West Nile virus has been confirmed in the Ciociaria area, this time in the city of Pontecorvo. Mayor Anselmo Rotondo announced the news in a post on his Facebook page. The mayor moved to reassure the public, confirming that a special disinfection intervention had been immediately activated across the entire municipal territory, with particular attention paid to the most sensitive areas to counteract the virus’s spread. A further intervention has been ordered for the entire residence of the infected individual.
In order to avoid unnecessary alarm, Anselmo Rotondo reminded citizens that the West Nile virus is not transmitted through human contact and in most cases causes mild or no symptoms. “However,” he highlighted, “in frail or immunocompromised individuals, as in today’s case, it can cause more serious complications.” He advised the public to adopt common preventative measures against mosquito bites, urging at-risk individuals to do so with greater intensityods.
