As midnight struck on the Atlantic coast, a new regime of tariffs levied by the Trump administration on small packages officially came into force in the United States. The measure eliminates a long-standing exemption, meaning postal shipments with a value below $800 will now be subject to import taxes upon their entry into American territory. The only parcels to remain exempt are those containing ‘gifts’ valued at less than $100.
