The Mount Etna Observatory of Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reports a new lava flow erupted this morning at an elevation of 3,000 meters (approximately 9,800 feet). The flow originates from an effusive vent that opened on the southern flank of the Bocca Nuova crater and is currently moving southward. INGV personnel are conducting on-site surveys to monitor the situation.
Seismically, no significant variations have been recorded. The source of the volcanic tremor is located at about 2,800 meters (approximately 9,200 feet) elevation, between the Voragine and Northeast Craters. No relevant infrasonic activity has been detected.
Crucially, there is no ash emission associated with this activity. As a result, Catania Airport remains fully operational, though authorities have issued an orange alert level for flights in the vicinity.
