A 20-year-old man has been hospitalized for botulism at Cosenza’s Annunziata Hospital, where his mother is also currently receiving treatment. The patient was immediately transferred to intensive care and placed under continuous monitoring.
This brings the total number of botulism cases at the facility to 15, with five patients in intensive care, three in Pediatrics, and seven in general medical wards.
Bishop Giovanni Checchinato of Cosenza visited affected patients in the intensive care unit this afternoon. Accompanied by UOC Director Andrea Bruni and acting Nursing Coordinator Domenico Cardamone, the bishop met with all hospitalized individuals and comforted families, expressing solidarity. Addressing medical staff, he highlighted the critical importance of their work in high-intensity care units.
“Your unwavering commitment represents a vital exercise in resilience and offers tangible hope to those confronting suffering and illness,” Bishop Checchinato stated.
