NATO Military Committee Chairman Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone declared that cyberspace has become the primary front line of daily combat and strategic competition. Speaking at the States General on Defense, Space, and Cybersecurity at the ESA-ESRIN center in Frascati, he revealed that hybrid attacks against critical infrastructure have increased by 60% in the past year, according to the latest 2025 data from the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE).
Admiral Cavo Dragone stated that “defense, space, and cybersecurity are three facets of the same strategic challenge.” He emphasized the necessity to “build our model, a European and Atlantic model,” which hinges on the synergy between NATO and the European Union based on the watchword of “complementarity, not duplication.”
“The NATO,” he underscored, “brings military strategic vision, operational posture, and integrated command. The European Union provides regulatory power, investment power, and a massive industrial base. We are not rivals; we are allies, and we have no other alternative.”
The Admiral concluded with a call to action: “The time for reflection is over; the time for choices is now. These are choices to be made with determination and courage and to be implemented stubbornly. We need civilian and military, public and industrial leadership that is strategic, clear, and courageous.”
