Naples and New York Tie for World’s Best Pizzeria in 2025 Ranking

In an unprecedented decision, Una Pizza Napoletana in New York, led by Anthony Mangieri, and I Masanielli in Caserta, helmed by Francesco Martucci, have been jointly crowned the world’s best pizzerias for 2025. The announcement was made by the prestigious guide 50 Top Pizza, founded by Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere, during a live-streamed awards ceremony at Naples’ Teatro Mercadante, presented by Spanish journalist and influencer Verónica Zumalacárregui.

The Pizza Bar on 38th in Tokyo, under chef Daniele Cason, secured second place, while Leggera Pizza Napoletana in São Paulo, Brazil, by André Guidon, took third. A second tie occurred for fourth place, awarded to Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria in Naples and Confine in Milan, the latter co-owned by Francesco Capece and Mario Ventura.

The full top ten is rounded out by: fifth place, Michele Pascarella’s Napoli on the Road in London; sixth, Seu Pizza Illuminati in Rome by Pier Daniele Seu and Valeria Zuppardo; seventh, I Tigli in San Bonifacio by Simone Padoan; eighth, Baldoria in Madrid by Ciro Cristiano; ninth, Pizzeria Sei in Los Angeles by William Joo; and tenth, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco by Tony Gemignani.

The ceremony also distributed a suite of special awards. William Joo of Pizzeria Sei (Los Angeles) was named Pizza Maker of the Year. The Pizza of the Year award went to ‘Ricordi d’Infanzia’ from Napoli on the Road in London. Other accolades recognized excellence in pasta, wine, beer, cocktails, and marketing, with winners spanning from Peru to Sweden.

A special Outstanding Career Achievement award was presented to Jonathan Goldsmith of Spacca Napoli Pizzeria in Chicago. Recognition was also given to associations like the Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani for promoting Neapolitan pizza culture worldwide and to major industry events in London, Rimini, and Naples.

John Arena was honored on stage with the Icon 2025 Award for his lifelong dedication to American artisanal pizza and his work with the non-profit John Arena Foundation.

The 2025 ranking features pizzerias from 37 countries. Italy leads with 41 entries, followed by the United States with 16 and Brazil with 6. The cities with the most representation are Naples and São Paulo, each with five pizzerias on the list.

The guide’s curators stated, “We are very satisfied and honored by what we have achieved in 2025—a year that has brought us great satisfaction, for a world-quality pizza community that now knows no borders.” The event concluded with a closing party at Palazzo Caracciolo. The next 50 Top Pizza awards, for the World Artisan Pizza Chains, will be presented on November 27th in London.
