Palermo, Sicily – A perplexing investigation unfolds following the death of 21-year-old Simona Cinà from Capaci, whose body was discovered in the swimming pool of a Bagheria villa during a graduation party late last night. Shockingly, the young woman reportedly remained submerged for several minutes before anyone noticed, despite the pool being described as “very small” and the party hosting approximately eighty guests.
Simona Cinà’s family lawyer, Gabriele Giambrone, has urgently requested an autopsy, citing grave inconsistencies. “Parts of this story don’t add up,” Giambrone stated. “How could no one notice Simona lifeless in the water for so many minutes? Why was her face upwards? If she fell in, she wouldn’t have been found in that position. Did she feel ill while bathing? Even so, it’s strange that in such a confined space – about eight square meters – nobody saw her body.”
Carabinieri investigators, working since dawn, have interviewed dozens of witnesses to address these questions. One young man was brought to the station for DNA testing after blood traces were found at the villa; he claimed he kicked an object in shock upon learning of the tragedy and injured himself. The party area, rented solely for its exterior patio and small pool, was notably compact.
Adding to the mystery, social media posts reveal Simona shared Instagram stories shortly before the party, including a video where a companion joked about an apparently intoxicated friend at a service station. While the WhatsApp invitation explicitly mentioned alcohol (“We’ll keep you hydrated”), Carabinieri arriving after emergency calls found no bottles – only plastic bags containing water bottles. “It’s utterly implausible. Someone cleaned up,” asserted lawyer Giambrone. The pending autopsy is expected to determine the cause of death.
Preliminary reconstruction suggests Simona died between 3:20 AM, when her best friend left her at the party, and 4:10 AM, when the first emergency call was made. Paramedics arrived within ten minutes. Simona had already been pulled from the water, and attempts at resuscitation – evidenced by red marks on her chest – proved futile as she was deceased.
Simona, remembered by her beach volleyball club ACG Beach as possessing “the most beautiful smile” and being “always sunny,” was a promising athlete. Edoardo Cammilleri, President of the Palermo Italian Volleyball Federation, expressed profound shock: “We are stunned by this loss… We extend our deepest condolences to the family and send them a strong embrace. Goodbye, Simona.”
