Moovit Partners with ATAC to Integrate Public Transit Ticketing in Rome

Rome residents and tourists can now plan their journeys and purchase public transit tickets within a single, precise mobility app, thanks to a new partnership between Moovit, ATAC, and Wetechnology.

The new feature utilizes Wetechnology’s technological and sales infrastructure, allowing Moovit to expand its service offering. Users are now empowered to not only find the best routing options but also to buy and validate tickets for ATAC-managed lines directly within the Moovit app.

This latest service, available on iOS and Android, has already seen enormous success. During its testing phase, travelers from over 42 different countries used the new technology to navigate Rome in the Jubilee Year, cementing Moovit’s leading position in the transport sector.

Globally, over one billion users across 3,500 cities and 112 nations rely on Moovit. The free app, available in 45 languages, brings unprecedented accuracy to Rome and has become a benchmark for both residents and international visitors planning multi-modal trips.

With Moovit, travelers know exactly when their vehicle will arrive, assisted by real-time navigation that provides stop alerts and step-by-step guidance for the entire journey. Service alerts help users make the best choices among different transport types and dynamically handle any service interruptions.

This initiative is part of the national MaaS4Italy project, implemented by the Department for Digital Transformation with the support of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. It aims to trial the MaaF (Mobility as a Feature) model to make mobility a simple, integrated experience accessible through numerous digital platforms.

“The partnership with ATAC testifies to the constant attention we pay to the citizens and tourists of Rome,” said Samuel Sed Piazza, Sr. Director of Sales & Global Partnerships at Moovit. “With the continuous evolution of urban mobility, the need for precise journey planning and easy access to ticket purchasing is now fundamental.”

ATAC’s Director General, Paolo Aielli, added, “The integration of the ticket purchase functionality marks a further step forward. Moovit is an international reference app…A particularly relevant aspect concerns tourists: thanks to this new feature, foreign visitors who already use Moovit in their countries can continue to do so in Rome without having to download new apps or face language barriers.”
