Missing Bologna Mushroom Hunter Found Dead in Valtellina Mountains

Dante Ragazzi, an 82-year-old mushroom hunter from Bologna missing since Tuesday in the woods near Aprica, Valtellina, has been found dead. The body of the pensioner, who was vacationing in the area, was discovered by the Sagf-Alpine Rescue unit of the Sondrio Financial Police during a helicopter overflight of a vast mountainous zone.

His remains were located at the bottom of a ravine between the Aprica bivouac area and Dosso Paso’, at approximately 2,300 meters altitude. Search efforts, coordinated by the Sondrio Prefecture and involving dozens of personnel, had continued incessantly without suspension.

Recovery operations are now underway by Sagf personnel alongside firefighters and Alpine Rescue teams from the VII Valtellina and Valchiavenna Delegation, Aprica Station. Ragazzi, a widower and known environmental activist in Bologna, was reported missing a week ago by a neighbor at his rental property. The Sondrio Prosecutor’s Office has assigned investigative duties to officers under Lieutenant Christian Maioglio, commander of the Sagf unit.
