Milan’s Provincial Partisan Association (ANPI) has called for a “clear and distinct disavowal” of what it termed the “delusional words” of Milo Meghnagi, the president of the city’s Jewish Community. The demand was issued in a statement by ANPI’s Milanese president, Primo Minelli, in response to Meghnagi’s assertion that the political left does not do enough to combat antisemitism.
The ANPI communiqué asserts that in Milan, the partisan organization and democratic forces “have always promoted and protected a positive relationship with the local Jewish community, also in consideration of the Shoah, which was scientifically planned by the Nazis with the active contribution of Italian fascists.” The statement emphasizes that “the shame of the racial laws is indelible.”
Minelli accused Meghnagi of using “false and provocative words” in an attempt to sever this relationship and “deliver the Milanese community into the hands of [Prime Minister] Meloni and her party, which struggles to distance itself from fascism.”
Furthermore, the ANPI president stated that Meghnagi’s comments represent a “clear attempt to defend the criminal behavior of Netanyahu’s government.” Minelli concluded by expressing confidence that “a large portion of Milan’s Jews, inside or outside the Jewish community, do not share his positions.”
