Milan Deputy Prosecutor Tiziana Siciliano declared her office possesses “extremely solid foundations” for a major urban planning corruption investigation, citing months of accumulated evidence and confirmations from multiple courts. Speaking after a hearing before Milan’s Review Court (Riesame), Siciliano referenced rulings from the Review Court itself, the Supreme Court (Cassazione), the Regional Administrative Court (TAR), and the Council of State (Consiglio di Stato) as bolstering the case.
The hearing addressed appeals against arrests made in the probe, notably concerning former city planning official Giancarlo Tancredi, manager Federico Pella, and ex-president of Milan’s Landscape Commission Giuseppe Marinoni. Siciliano confirmed the Review Court is currently evaluating the positions of six suspects.
“We have a legal obligation to proceed, and that is what we will do. I am deeply passionate about the truth,” Siciliano stated, emphasizing the investigation’s broader scope: “The issue is far bigger than what we are examining in these days.” She stressed that the alleged crimes require mandatory prosecution (“procedibili d’ufficio”), leaving investigators no choice but to press forward.
Regarding two recent annulments related to the case, Siciliano acknowledged their significance: “The fact that there have been two annulments has a meaning that we will take into consideration. When we are able to read the reasoning [behind the annulments], we will evaluate it.”
