Milan Launches Eleven Digital Assistance Hubs to Bridge the Digital Divide

The city of Milan is establishing eleven new centers to help citizens navigate digital technologies, to be based in its neighborhood ‘Case di Quartiere’. The initiative, named ‘Remind@ – Rendere Milano Inclusiva e Digitale’ (Making Milan Inclusive and Digital), is promoted by the City Council. It will feature informational meetings and campaigns in city districts, specifically aimed at the economically and socially vulnerable, the elderly, foreign nationals, and those seeking employment.

The municipality explains that young people, who are more accustomed to using technology, will share their knowledge with senior citizens in a mutually beneficial learning environment. This approach is designed not only to foster digital inclusion but also to strengthen community ties by promoting a sense of belonging and solidarity. Consequently, the over-65 population will gain easier access to municipal services, improving their autonomy and participation in city life.

“We are aware of how, unfortunately, the digital divide can become a factor of marginalization and genuine social exclusion,” commented council members Gaia Romani (Civic Services) and Lamberto Bertolé (Welfare and Health), along with the Coordinator of the Board for Technological Innovation and Digital Transformation, Layla Pavone. “This is why providing citizens with digital facilitation centers—where those in need can also receive reconditioned technological devices—represents an opportunity to participate fully in the life of the city.”
