The Milan Labour Court has reinforced urgent measures requiring Glovo’s parent company Foodinho srl to safeguard delivery riders during heatwaves. Building on a July 8th precautionary order, the ruling mandates immediate consultation with worker safety representatives in Palermo and Trapani. Discussions must address heat-related health risks, considering riders’ age, gender, maternity status, geographic origin, and contract type.
Foodinho must now integrate climate-specific risk assessments into its safety documentation and provide riders with essential protective gear. This includes visored hats, UV-filter sunglasses, high-protection sunscreen, thermal water bottles, and hydrating mineral salts. Crucially, the company must pay an additional €0.30 per delivery when temperatures reach or exceed 25°C – lowering its initial 32°C threshold.
The case originated from a legal challenge filed by Riccardo Vittorio Marotta, a Filcams CGIL union safety representative for Palermo and Trapani’s commerce sector, represented by lawyer Carlo De Marchis. Milan’s jurisdiction stems from Foodinho’s headquarters location in the Lombard capital.
