Rain has been falling over Milan since Wednesday night. The worsening weather conditions were forecasted and are expected to continue through Thursday afternoon, evening, and into the night. Authorities have issued an orange alert for hydrogeological risk and a yellow alert for potential thunderstorms.
The severe weather originates from an Atlantic disturbance moving over France, which is now approaching northern Italy. As a precaution, all public parks in Milan have been closed. The persistent rainfall is anticipated to raise the levels of the Seveso and Lambro rivers in the coming hours, creating a significant risk of overflow and potential evacuations.
The City Council has urged citizens to avoid standing under trees, scaffolding, or outdoor dining structures (dehors). Residents have also been advised to secure any pots or objects on their balconies that could be displaced by strong winds.
