Meloni Slams Opposition Over ‘False’ Tourism Decline Claims, Cites Rising Arrival Data

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni denounced opposition attacks on the government, calling it “shameful” that critics spread false information damaging Italy’s image and interests. In a social media post, Meloni specifically referenced recent remarks by PD (Democratic Party) Secretary Elly Schlein suggesting Italian tourism was in crisis.

Meloni countered that official data from the Interior Ministry (Viminale), sourced from the State Police’s ‘Alloggiati web’ database, proved the opposite just hours after Schlein’s comments. The figures certified increased arrivals and millions of visitors at Italian accommodation facilities.

“Numbers and truth respond to these fabricated misrepresentations and falsehoods,” Meloni stated. She added, “Those who truly love their nation do not tarnish its image before the world for political expediency. We will continue working to make Italy stronger, more attractive, and prouder of itself every day.”
