Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has denounced the “unworthy images” coming from Milan, where clashes erupted between police and demonstrators. In a social media post, Meloni criticized “so-called ‘pro-Palestinian’ activists, so-called ‘antifa,’ and so-called ‘pacifists'” for devastating the city’s central station and generating violent confrontations with law enforcement.
She stated that the violence and destruction have nothing to do with solidarity and “will not change the situation for the people in Gaza by one iota.” Instead, Meloni argued, the consequences will be felt concretely by Italian citizens, who will end up suffering and paying for the damages caused by what she called “thugs.”
The Prime Minister expressed her support for the police forces, who were “forced to endure the bullying and gratuitous violence of these pseudo-protesters.” She concluded by hoping for “clear words of condemnation” from the organizers of the strike and from all political forces.
