The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, stated that the resumption of work marks the “final phase of the current council’s term,” which will also include the imminent renewal of its commission memberships. He made the remarks following an extraordinary plenary session of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM) that elected Pasquale D’Ascola as the new First President of the Court of Cassation.
“I always hope,” Mattarella underscored, “that the CSM will continue to ensure timeliness and transparency in its decisions. We are all aware that these must be based on criteria and evaluation elements that are above prejudicial partisan divisions.”
