The 311 permanent employees of the Chinese low-cost clothing brand Shein, located in Stradella, are being made redundant effective today. The announcement was delivered to trade unions by Fiege Logistics, acting on behalf of Shein, during a meeting held today at the Prefecture of Pavia. The production site in the Oltrepò Pavese area is set to shut down permanently by the end of the year, with operations relocating to Poland.
In addition to the 311 full-time workers being laid off, a further 150 fixed-term contracts have not been renewed. Only approximately sixty employees will be reassigned to local warehouses, with fifty positions in Stradella (Pavia) and ten in Castelsangiovanni (Piacenza).
A further meeting with the ownership is scheduled for Monday, September 22nd to discuss the financial aspects of the layoffs.
During the meeting at the Prefecture, Fiege informed unions that the Stradella site could potentially be taken over by new buyers in early 2026, though this was presented as merely a hypothetical scenario at this time.
