A 47-year-old man was killed after a fire broke out in his apartment in the town of Bellona, in the Caserta province. Firefighters from the provincial command of Caserta arrived on the scene around 1 a.m. after residents reported smoke coming from the first-floor windows of a building on Via Vittorio Emanuele. Crews entered the apartment and extinguished the blaze, which had engulfed furniture and contents in the kitchen and bedroom. Once the flames were put out, they discovered the man’s charred remains in the bedroom. Fire officials stated the victim is “believed to be the apartment’s tenant, approximately 47 years old.” The cause of the fire is under investigation, though it is currently thought to have started accidentally.
