A significant majority of countries are opposed to utilizing seized Russian assets, as there is no legal foundation for such a move, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated on the sidelines of the Copenhagen informal meeting. Tajani cited the European Central Bank’s position, noting the absence of a juridical basis for repurposing the frozen funds. He warned that while the decision might seem politically logical, proceeding without a legal foundation would be a violation of law and would ultimately serve as a “gift to Vladimir Putin,” potentially backfiring on the nations that support it.
