Italian Carabinieri have seized a large-scale marijuana plantation in Caulonia, Reggio Calabria province. During the operation, officers discovered over two thousand cannabis sativa plants cultivated using advanced techniques and connected to a sophisticated irrigation system.
The find occurred during a sweep conducted by troops from the Caulonia station alongside the specialised “Cacciatori Calabria” unit. Investigators believe a criminal group exploited the area’s isolation and dense vegetation to conceal a hidden “green empire” within the woods. Due to its size and level of organisation, the cultivation had taken on the characteristics of an illegal agricultural enterprise, poised to release massive quantities of drugs onto the market.
