A moment of panic unfolded on the busy Dolomites Road (SS 242) in Val Gardena yesterday afternoon. At approximately 5:30 PM near Ortisei, a lost dog began wandering onto the roadway, creating a dangerous situation for motorists and motorcyclists on the artery, which is heavily trafficked during the summer holiday season.
Two Roman tourists driving along the road noticed the frightened animal and the clear danger it posed to both itself and passing vehicles. They promptly decided to intervene. Using their car to block traffic in both directions, they exited their vehicle and safely retrieved the dog. The animal was then taken aboard their car and transported to their hotel in Castelrotto.
There, the hotel staff immediately sprang into action. They provided the necessary care for the animal and contacted the competent authorities. Their efforts led to the involvement of the Alto Adige Health Service, which dispatched a vehicle to collect the lost dog. The authorities will now work to find the animal temporary accommodation and initiate the process of locating its possible owners.
